Stolen: 130 Million Credit Card and Debit Card Numbers in the Biggest Da...

Cyber Liability and Online Fraud

The internet has, without a doubt, boosted business for most business owners through offering the convenience of online ordering and payment options as well as more marketing exposure.  Because of the increased cyber exposures specifically regarding confidential customer information entered on websites, businesses small and large rank need a type of Commercial Insurance called Cyber Liability. Many times, owners, managers or even employees own laptops containing confidential customer information.   On average, a lost laptop causes a business loss of $49,276, most of the loss being linked to data breach costs.
It is important to mention that Cyber Liability is not included in the Commercial Insurance you typically purchase for your business and if you keep any kind of electronic data and use the internet to conduct business you have a cyber risk.

New Years Resolutions A Thing of The Past?

O.K., so how’s it going with those New Years resolutions? Is January’s goals now a thing of the past? Are you staying on track with your workout regiment, how bout the budget or maybe that new schedule. Getting Organized is one of the most frequent new years resolutions people make. With that said; did your new years resolution include getting your Homeowner’s Insurance policy in order? How about inventorying the items in your home? One of the most frequent questions we get at The Trident Agency when reviewing a Homeowner’s policy is, how do the adjusters know what I had if everything was destroyed.? While adjusters do a great job of determining a value for items that were lost or destroyed, insureds can minimize the stress by being prepared. One of the easiest things a California Homeowner can do is to video their personal belongings. Here at The Trident Agency we always recommend that you set a side a Saturday or Sunday and go from room to room with the video camera rolling. It is always helpful if someone can narrate during the video to help explain some of the details surrounding the different items within the individual rooms. Another recommendation is to lay small or valuable items out on a blanket so that they can be seen clearly. This is an especially good idea with jewelry. Once you have your video complete we like to recommend that insureds go back through and make a list of items that have serial numbers on them. It is also a good idea to record additional information such as makes, models. purchase prices etc…. If you have any items such as jewelry, art or guns you should talk with your agent about adding them to your Trident Home Insurance policy. In closing always make sure that you keep your inventory lists in a safe place away from your home.

No matter where you are located across the state of California, the onset of spring weather can bring with it a slew of problems—if the necessary precautions have yet to be taken. Nothing is more frustrating than dealing with a wet basement and household water damage.
Whether it’s the extra spring precipitation, a plumbing mishap in your home or simply your location along the California coastline, water damage is possible and by spotting the first signs early enough you can stop the issue from growing. They “symptoms” may seem trivial at first – a few water stains on your bathroom ceiling or a leak under the kitchen sink – but with continued disregard and seasonable rain, those small issues can turn into major problems.
As a California homeowner, recognizing the causes of water damage can help you prevent damages to your home and personal possessions.
Common causes of water damage include:
Broken pipes & hoses
Household accidents – overflowing bathtubs and broken toilets
Flash flooding and excessive rain
Sewer back up – tree roots are common violators!
There are many ways you can take a proactive approach and prevent water damage from causing chaos within your California home. Start by evaluating your property and determine any possible sources of water damage; then try utilizing some of these maintenance tips:
Keep your gutters free and clear of any debris
Check for leaks under the sink where the hoses connect to the water supply
If your refrigerator has a built in icemaker, check the hose connection and be aware of any wet spots on the floor.
Replace any weakening caulk around sinks
In addition to appliances and the general upkeep of your home, location can also play a significant role in you water damage woes. Live in a high-risk flooding area? You may want to consider adding extra, enhanced protection to your California Home policy to cover flood and water damage.
With roughly a month left until Spring all of us at The Trident Agency hope you enjoy the spring weather, and while you’re out and about doing some spring cleaning, stay up to date on these important water maintenance needs!
