RE: SATURDAY, MARCH 19th EVENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WOODLAND HILLS TREE PLANTING EVENT SET FOR SAT., MARCH 19, 2011
Los Angeles officials -- along with members of the city’s Million Trees LA (MTLA) project,
Counilman Zine’s Community Coalition, Woodland Hills-Tarzana Chamber of Commerce
--will team up with scores of community residents on Saturday, March 19th to plant 37
healthy, young trees along Ventura Boulevard between Canoga and Topanga Avenues.
The event, in which both adults and children volunteers are invited to participate,
begins at 7:30 a.m. with participant registration, a free breakfast and a DJ in the outdoor
area which is to be announced. The morning will include a welcome from L.A. City
Councilmember Dennis Zine (3rd District) and other dignitaries, and a brief tree-planting
demonstration conducted by MTLA arborists. Digging tools will be provided.
Then 37 planting teams, each comprised of three to four children supervised by an
equal number of adults and an MTLA conservation expert, will head out onto Boulevard
sidewalks to plant trees already positioned at the designated locations. Besides supervising
the young, the adults will also provide muscle for the digging process. The youth involved
include members of local organizations, including Boy- and Girl Scouts, among others.
“Increasing the desirability of our community will directly impact our businesses”
states Diana Williams, project chair for the tree planting. “These are small steps toward
the vision of the pedestrian friendly neighborhood that we have planned. We hope to
relaunch the sense of pride in ownership to get us even closer to that vision.”
Councilman Zine, Octaviano Rios, Million Trees LA and the Woodland Hills-
Tarzana Chamber of Commerce are to be commended along with the numerous
Boulevard merchants and organizations for their participation in the tree planting project.
